Preparing Your Spreadsheet
A clean sheet gives you a clean import. Spend two minutes on the layout and the AI mapping will be more accurate.
The Basic Rules
- One subtask per row.
- One header row at the top, with a clear name for each column.
- No merged cells and no blank rows in the middle of the data.
- One value per cell. For labels, keep them in one cell in a consistent format.
- Stay within your project's row limit (500 by default, maximum 1,000) and the 10 MB file size limit.
Example Layout
| Summary | Assignee | Priority | Due Date | Labels | Story Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Draft launch email | Alex Morgan | High | 2026-06-01 | marketing | 3 |
| Review legal copy | sam.taylor@example.com | Medium | 06/03/2026 | legal | 2 |
| Schedule social posts | Alex Morgan | Low | June 5, 2026 | marketing | 1 |
This example uses three different date formats. That is fine. The app converts all of them to ISO format.
Column Names That Map Well
Use plain names. The AI reads both the header and the values, but a clear header helps.
| Jira field | Header examples |
|---|---|
| Summary | Summary, Title, Task, Subtask |
| Assignee | Assignee, Owner, Assigned To |
| Priority | Priority, Severity |
| Due date | Due Date, Deadline, Target Date |
| Labels | Labels, Tags |
| Story points | Story Points, Estimate, Points |
What to Check Before Upload
- Every row has a Summary. A subtask needs one.
- Names and emails match Jira users who exist in your instance and are members of the project.
- Priorities use values your project has (for example High, Medium, Low).
- Number columns contain only numbers.
- There are no duplicate rows you did not intend.
Google Sheets
- Publish the sheet to the web as CSV: File → Share → Publish to the web, choose Comma-separated values (.csv), click Publish, and copy the URL.
- Share → Anyone with link is not enough. The sheet must be published.
- Paste the URL in the Import from Google Sheets field and click Import Sheet.
- Use the same layout rules as for files.
- Finish your edits before you import.
Tip: Keep a master template sheet for each recurring process. Copy it, fill it in, and import. Pair it with a saved mapping template and the mapping step is a single click.
