Saved Mapping Templates

If you import sheets with the same layout often, save the column mapping as a template and skip the mapping step next time.

How Templates Work

  • Templates are saved per project.
  • One template per project can be set as the default.
  • A template applies to sheets with the same columns.

Steps

  1. Complete the mapping on the Field Mapping screen.
  2. Click Save Template and give it a clear name.
  3. On your next import, pick the template from Apply saved template....
  4. To make a template the default for a project, an admin can choose it in the Default Template column on the Subtask Importer admin page. See Per-Project Settings.

Naming Templates

Use names that describe the process, not the person. For example:

  • Release Checklist
  • New Hire Onboarding
  • QA Regression Test List

When to Create a New Template

  • The sheet has different columns.
  • A new custom field is now used.
  • A different team uses a different layout.

Tip: Templates work best with a master sheet. Keep the column order fixed and only change the rows.
