Getting Started
Connecting Your First Repository
Once GitConnect for Jira is installed, someone with the Manage Integrations permission needs to connect at least one repository before development activity appears on Jira issues.
Before You Start
Make sure you have:
- The Manage Integrations permission in GitConnect for Jira (granted by a Jira admin - see Permissions)
- Access to the GitHub or GitLab repository you want to connect
- If using a personal access token: a token with read access to the repository - see Creating Personal Access Tokens
Quick Start
- Open Apps → GitConnect for Jira → Manage Integrations
- Click Add Integration
- Follow the Add Integration wizard: Select Hosting → Authenticate → Select Repositories → Options
- See the full walkthrough in Connecting a Repository
Tip: The initial sync can take a few minutes depending on repository size and commit history. Development activity appears on Jira issues as soon as each repository finishes indexing.
What Happens Next
Once a repository is connected and indexed:
- Commits, branches, and pull/merge requests that reference a Jira issue key (e.g.
PROJ-123) appear on that issue's Issue Activity panel and its Git Commits / Git Roll Up tabs - The issue's linked pipelines, deployments, and tags appear alongside them
- The repository's activity also becomes available on the Jira project's Git Commits page and in JQL searches using GitConnect's JQL functions
