Installation & Setup
Prerequisites
Before installing, confirm:
- Your instance is Jira Cloud. On Atlassian Government Cloud, see the Atlassian Government Cloud tab instead - installation works differently there.
- You have access to the Atlassian Marketplace from within Jira
For Site Admins - Installing the App
Step 1 - Find the App on the Marketplace

Step 2 - Connect to Your Site
- Select your Atlassian Cloud site when prompted
- Sign in if needed
- Choose Jira
Step 3 - Review & Confirm Permissions
- Review the permissions the app requires and click Accept
- Start the free trial or purchase - the app installs automatically, no restart required
Step 4 - Manage the Installed App
- Go to admin.atlassian.com → Apps → Manage Apps to configure, manage the license, or uninstall
For End Users - Requesting the App
If you don't have site admin access, you can still request the app:
- Find GitConnect for Jira with GitHub and GitLab on marketplace.atlassian.com
- Click Try it free to send a request to your site admin, with justification if prompted
- Your admin approves or denies the request - you're notified once it's approved
Verify Installation
After installation:
- Click Apps in the Jira top navigation bar
- Look for GitConnect for Jira in the dropdown menu
- Click it to open the app's admin console - Manage Integrations should load
Note: If the app does not appear within a few minutes, refresh the page or clear your browser cache.
Permissions Requested During Install

Pricing
GitConnect for Jira with GitHub and GitLab is a paid app (commercial license) billed through your Atlassian account. A free trial may be available before purchase - see the Marketplace listing for current pricing and trial terms.
First Steps After Install
Once installed, complete these setup tasks before rolling out to your team:
- Grant the Manage Integrations permission (Jira Settings → System → Global permissions) to whoever will connect repositories - see Permissions
- Connect your first repository - see Connecting Your First Repository
- Grant the View Development Tools Jira permission to the users, groups, or project roles who should see development activity on issues
Uninstalling
To uninstall: go to admin.atlassian.com → Apps → Manage Apps → click GitConnect for Jira → Uninstall.
