What does Subtask Importer do?
It creates Jira subtasks in bulk from a CSV file, an Excel file, or a Google Sheet.
Which Jira products does it support?
Jira Cloud: Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and team-managed projects. It does not support Jira Data Center or Server.
How many rows can I import at once?
Admins set the limit per project, up to 1,000 rows. The admin page shows 500 rows by default. Files are limited to 10 MB.
Does it cost anything?
It is a paid app, billed through Atlassian. A free trial is available from the Marketplace listing.
Importing
Which file types can I use?
CSV, Excel (.xlsx and .xls), and Google Sheets. For Google Sheets, publish the sheet to the web as CSV and paste the published URL.
Can I import into an issue that already has subtasks?
Imported subtasks are added under the parent issue you start from. Check the parent's existing subtasks first, and use the duplicate check in the preview, to avoid repeats.
Can I map custom fields?
Yes. Custom fields available to the project are read from its create metadata.
What date formats work?
Any common format. Dates are converted to ISO (YYYY-MM-DD).
How are assignees matched?
By name or email address, resolved to Jira account IDs. Email is the most reliable. The person must exist in your Jira instance and be assignable in the project the subtasks are created in.
Can I edit data before importing?
Yes. Use the preview editor to change or remove rows.
AI Features
What does the AI do?
It suggests column-to-field mappings, using the headers and the values. It also flags anomalies in the data.
Does the AI create issues on its own?
No. It only suggests. Nothing is created until you confirm.
Does the AI learn from my changes?
Yes. It remembers your mapping overrides and uses them to improve later suggestions.
Which model is used?
GPT-4o.
Templates and Records
What is a mapping template?
A saved column mapping for a project. One template per project can be the default.
Can I see who imported what?
Yes. The audit log shows the user, timestamp, and row counts per issue.
